LGBTQIA+ Wiki
LGBTQIA+ Wiki

The code of conduct applies to all users on LGBTQIA+ Wiki. It sets a foundation for how users should interact with each other, in a manner that is inclusive to all and welcoming to newcomers. Failure to follow these rules could result in a block.

Conduct

Safe space

Because this wiki is based on LGBTQIA+ topics, we ask that everyone follow these guidelines to contribute to a safe environment for people of all sexualities and gender identities:

  • Be inclusive and open to others. Everyone is welcome here, regardless of how they identify. No one is required to disclose their identity in order to be part of this community.
  • Treat people as individuals; don't expect a single person or their experiences to represent an entire community.
  • Respect everyone's identity and use the terms that someone uses for themselves by mirroring their language.
  • Respect people's pronouns. Use the correct pronouns when you know them, and if you don't know, ask politely! To avoid misgendering someone, they/them/theirs pronouns are generally acceptable until you have the opportunity to learn what they are, but don't continue to use those pronouns if you learn otherwise.
  • Don't use deadnames, both for other users and the people/characters you write about.
  • While we have the Message Wall feature enabled, they are not direct or private messaging. Wikis are PUBLIC and NOTHING here is private. All content and conversations are open to anyone.
  • This wiki is not a personal dating or relationship service, chat site, or diary. Misusing any feature of this wiki to seek friends, a partner, "family", or any other kind of relationship will result in a warning and then a ban. This is to protect you and others.
  • Speak up if you see something offensive, a troll/spammer, or other inappropriate conduct—report it to admins through their Message Walls or the Report function on Discussions posts, or use Special:Contact.
  • Slurs, hate speech, and/or incitement of violence, especially directed at another contributor, are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to: ableism, ageism, aphobia, biphobia, discrimination based on family structure(s), ethnocultural discrimination, exorsexism, gender essentialism, homophobia, misogyny, polyphobia, racism, religious or areligious intolerance, sexism, and transphobia (such as deliberately misgendering, referencing their deadname, and otherwise not respecting their identity). Disagreement over what constitutes a religion, race, sexual orientation, or ethnicity is not a legitimate excuse.

Civil conduct

Users must be civil in all interactions. Incivility consists of behaviors that disrupt the project and lead to unproductive stress and conflict. Keep the below in mind during your time on LGBTQIA+ Wiki:

  • No personal attacks—see below for more details. Comment on a topic or argument, never the person.
  • No rudeness, insults, name-calling, gross profanity or indecent suggestions.
  • Do not taunt or bait others: deliberately pushing others to the point of breaching civility even if not seeming to commit such a breach themselves.
  • Do not lie or otherwise grossly misrepresent a truth.
  • No editing messages and comments to alter the context of what was said.
  • No quoting another editor out of context to give the impression they hold views they do not hold or to cast aspersions on their credibility or decency.
  • Do not attempt to silence differing views on content or the topic.
  • Do not threaten spam/vandalism or harm to other users and wikis.
  • No invalidating the identities or experiences of anyone or excluding people from identifying a certain way. This includes discussing whether a label is or is not "valid" or declaring who you feel can or cannot use an identity term.
  • No forcing labels onto others or determining how someone else identifies, whether it be a specific person or speaking generally. How someone chooses to label themselves is a personal decision.
  • Do not assume the identities of others or demand details of anyone's identity, including assuming or demanding to know their pronouns. Even if your assumption turns out to be correct, this can send a harmful message that you have to look or act a specific way to be seen as a certain gender.
  • Do not refuse to use people's pronouns or identity labels:
    • Don't continue to use they/them/theirs if those are not that person's pronouns.
    • Don't refuse to use someone's pronouns when they have been shared.
    • Don't ask someone why they use certain pronouns or labels. This implies people may be mistaken about their own identity or that something is wrong with their chosen language.

Users are human and capable of mistakes, so a few minor incidents of incivility from time to time are not in themselves a major concern. However, a studied pattern of incivility is unacceptable.

Personal attacks

Personal attacks are a common form of uncivil behavior and are unacceptable. Do not make them anywhere on LGBTQIA+ Wiki. There is no rule that is objective and not open to interpretation on what constitutes a personal attack, but some types of comments are never acceptable and will be acted on based on administrator discretion:

  • No threats, including, but not limited to:
    • Threats of violence or other off-wiki action (particularly death threats).
    • Threats or actions which deliberately expose other LGBTQIA+ Wiki editors to persecution by their employer, their school, or any others.
  • No harassment, including hounding, personal or legal threats, posting of personal information, repeated messaging and ignoring their request to be left alone.
  • No breaches of privacy by sharing personal information about another user such as their real name, age, residence, etc. without their explicit consent.
  • Never out someone's orientation or gender identity, threaten to do so, or pressure them to out themselves.
  • No accusations about personal behavior that lack evidence. Serious accusations require serious evidence. Evidence often takes the form of "diffs" and "links" presented on wiki.
  • No linking to external attacks, harassment, or other material, for the purpose of attacking another editor.

These are only some of the possibilities and are not an exhaustive list. Insulting or disparaging someone else is a personal attack regardless of the manner in which it is done. When in doubt, don't say it.

Sockpuppeting

The use of sockpuppet accounts on this wiki is not tolerated, especially when said accounts are used in a malicious manner, such as vandalizing, spamming, bullying/ harassing other users, or manipulating the outcome of any of our voting systems (polls, surveys, etc.). Any user that is caught abusing multiple accounts will be subject to a block, along with their respective sockpuppets.

Editing disputes

Always assume good faith and do not revert or delete the perfectly good edits of any user without justification or an explanation in the edit summary. This can sometimes lead to an edit war, which is prohibited on the wiki. Edit warring refers to an occurrence where users in disagreement over a single issue repeatedly revert each others' contributions relating to the issue, rather than attempting to come to an agreement on it. They are regarded as harmful to a constructive atmosphere.

If you ever find yourself in an editing dispute with a fellow user, please try to communicate with that user or contact an administrator for further guidance. If these guidelines are not followed, the parties that instigated the edit war may be sanctioned or even temporarily blocked. Communication and respect are key, and do not forget that we are all editors who simply want the best for this community.
